Buyer checklist

Verify a show horse before you buy

The same discipline you would apply to any significant purchase — confirm identity, verify the record, check the ask, then involve your trainer and vet.

Four steps before you trial

  1. Confirm identity — USEF or FEI number, papers, and that the horse in the ring matches the horse for sale.
  2. Read the record — stated jump height vs recent clears; look for consistency, not one good video.
  3. Check the ask — comparable listings at the same level and age band; fair range, not gut feel.
  4. List open questions — what the seller, trainer, and vet still need to answer before money moves.
